Paul is going crazy, not for any particular reason I can find, which makes it more or less interesting I guess.

Amazing

PSF: That always helps! One more great quote from you. You were saying "if you write about yourself as a person, then you're writing about everybody. We're all basically the same with a few minor differences. But it's those little differences that enable one man to become president and another a bum. Those differences are what I write about." I was wondering, what were your thoughts about that? Was that just like a huge area that you kind of delved into then?

TTH: Well, it has to do with talent. What most people don't pursue their true talent. If their father's a doctor, they become a doctor. Then they go out and they kill a lot of people. What they really wanted to be was a mechanic. That's where they'd really be happy. Spending their life under the hood of a car. There are people who actually love that sort of thing.

And they don't do it. And then they're unhappy and they don't know why they're unhappy--because they're not doing what they were called, what they were supposed to do. I've thought about people who could wiggle their ears. And I think, you know, that guy has got a talent. That's what he does. If I can write songs, he can wiggle his ears. Which one of us does God like best? You don't know. It's a pretty good trick, wiggling your ears.

Such a good Quote

TTH: ...There should be some things that are so strange, wonderful, weird... that you don't understand them. We'd like to say this is what it is and then we hang it on a peg or put it in a cubbyhole and that's what it is. And I hate to think that everything has a name. Another thing that alarms me is that everybody is on such a great mission to be sane. Sanity is over-rated. You don't want to be too sane, you know what I mean? I have always thought the best life would be a manageable mad thing. If you could somehow, you know, be weird and wonderful and strange and still kind of not get in anybody's way, hurt anybody's feelings, or cause anybody any economic disadvantage. But if you could get through life like that, that's your best shot. Don't try to be too sane. And if you could get there, then you could be honest. That's the first virtue. Humility is a good virtue.

PSF: Well, it's good to have both.

TTH: If you have truth, you're fully aware of what an asshole you are.

Tom T. Hall

Tom T. Hall is probably my favorite "artist" (musical that is). Can't really say why I guess, he's humble, has written a lot of songs for other people that made them very rich/famous, but never got really big himself, writes and sings about life as it is, or was... he's kinda old now. But anyway, I stumbled across an interview with him, and its purdy interesting, including some of his comments on religion down near the bottom.

Here's some quotes:
PSF: A number of times, you've said that "I never wanted to be great, just good." I was wondering what you meant by that.

TTH: Well, I am a fan of history. When you look back, you think Mozart, you think Chopin and you think Hank Williams. And I don't know that tragedy follows true greatness. A tragedy of life. And a lot of dire circumstances. I'm a very comfortable and happy-go-lucky old man. So, I never wanted to be great because I'd just get worried anyway. But I never wanted to get too good or too hot or too big.

I told somebody the other day, I said, "You know, if you see a seventeen-year-old kid riding around in a pickup listening to Tom T. Hall tapes, there's something wrong with that kid.

Here's the rest of the interview: http://www.furious.com/perfect/tomthall.html
Guess I'm a weird kid :-p

I get by with a little help from my friends...

Had a wonderful weekend, got to hang out with Chrisheilman a good bit, which is always good. Played Shadowrun for the first time, it was ver nice, maybe better than d&d and certainly different. Down time is something I've been needing for a while, so it was very good timing as well as good fun. If I can make it through the semester without going crazy.... But then, going crazy is half the fun.

...

I'm too tired to do a real post right now, which is probably a good thing, because I'm thoroughly pissed off and I'd probably say something I'd regret.

What the hell...

Even though I've never seen the movie...

Eunuch
'You're not a eunuch, are you?'- You're not exactly
trusting, and you tend to tease people a bit,
but at least you've got a good sense of humor.

Ponder wander yonder

So, this is what I was thinking when I wrote it. (Holland: feel free to skip this post, it basically argument #37) The term "I love you" is very much abused. To the extent, I think, that if you were to tell someone that they could have no clue what you meant depending upon the sitiation. Not that I have any real solution for it, personally I think it would be really cool if everything had its own name, everything, each apple had a unique name, each leaf, each person, each emotion. Obviously the human mind is.. if not incapable, unused to such a language so its not really possible, but I still think it'd be dang cool. Kinda mixed up in the ponder is the thought that love is more actions than words. Personally I think love is an absolute thing, so when you love someone you love them whether they hate you, love you, or don't realize you exist... whether you're having a good day or a shitty one. So anyway, there is no real absolute meaning, just something I was thinking about.
Peace

Ponder ponder ponder....

When you speak the words "I love you" you've said nothing.
When you say "I love you" the words count for nothing.

Yes there are many possible meanings, thats why its a ponder.

Slipping Mickeys and other random stuff.

I love old movies :-) I just watched Donovan's Reef, an old John Wayne/John Ford movie. It was ver nice, also ver odd... For instance, one of the characters used the term "slip her a Mickey" so I guess Melissa isn't a complete liarface ;-p Also, in one of the scenes a guy has a bottle of beer tied to his wrist with a rope.... convenient I guess, but rather odd. Anyway, good movie.
In sad news, the weekend is over... and SarahandChrisheilman have moved away :-( Maybe I can find a job in the area when I graduate... its nice to be near friends.
Bed time for me,
Peace

Very eeenteresting...

So, in many ways, and for much of my life, I've been a pretty messed up kid. We've all got our demons to fight. Seems like its been getting better though, each fight, once past, leaves me changed in its wake. Still, I'm amazed at His patience. I don't say it nearly enough, but I'm very thankful for all my friends. Never doubt that God has a purpose for you, that He put you here for a reason, even if it is just to comfort a crazy country boy.
Still, these three remain, faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these, is love.

Much love,
Paul

Jim Croce is very good stuff, some of the best love songs ever written, some pretty weird ones too :-p

I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song
~ Jim Croce

Well, I know it's kind of late
I hope I didn't wake you
But what I got to say can't wait I know you'd understand
Ev'ry time I tried to tell you
The words just came out wrong
So I'll have to say I love you in a song

Yeah, I know it's kind of strange
But ev'ry time I'm near you
I just run out of things to say
I know you'd understand
Ev'ry time I tried to tell you
The words just came out wrong
So I'll have to say I love you in a song

Ev'ry time the time was right
All the words just came out wrong
So I'll have to say I love you in a song

Scary

So Dave announced at worship today that there is a kind of testimony thing going on next worship... and I dunno, I kinda think I should do it and I kinda don't. On the one hand its very scary, and I'm not sure that people would be comfortable hearing about what I've got to talk about... on the other, it might help someone... I dunno.
In other news, Paul is going crazy, it never rains but it pours.
